Looking for the very best in self catering accommodation in or around Dolgellau? Penybryn self catering cottage is less than three miles from town in the foothills of Cader Idris which rise majestically above the lovely old medieval town of Dolgellau in Gwynedd.
Ideal for cycling and walking
Penybryn self catering cottage is ideally located for cyclists and walkers, with a Sustrans cycle path running alongside and superb walks from the front door. We are occasional cyclists ourselves (although the common garden not lycra-clad variety) and can give you some tips on where to cycle and walk. Penybryn cottage also has plenty of secure bike storage.
From Penybryn self catering cottage, you can also walk along various routes down into the town of Dolgellau (all downhill!), where you can slake your thirst with a cocktail or drink at the newly-opened quirky little ‘gin joint’ at Beechwood House, which comes highly recommended by ourselves before enjoying a spot of lunch at the Meirionnydd or Ship hotels or at the newly restored Y Sospan which used to be a jail and dates back to 1606.
Later, after wandering happily through the old streets and alleys of this historical town, you can pop into one of the town’s many atmospheric tearooms such as Popty’r Dre, Gwyndy or T H Roberts for afternoon tea before phoning a taxi to bring you back to Penybryn self catering cottage for around a tenner. You could also catch a bus which would drop you off where you can pick up a footpath back up to the cottage. Such a lovely and healthy way to spend the day if you’re looking for something different to the usual daytrip in the car. This is only a small selection of eating and drinking places in Dolgellau, please feel free to ask us for recommendations.
